Welcome

Are we locked up or protected? Are we confined or are we saving lives? It’s not the end of the world, it’s the beginning of the new world and WE are in charge. In the spirit of manifestation, I’m approaching the concept from a place of optimism and hope for a better future. In a way we have been abruptly welcomed to our homes now that we must stay in indefinitely, and also when we can move freely again, people will walk and bike by the mural and it will welcome them into our new world. During our social timeout in this post Covid era, the arts will play a major role in setting the tone and healing the masses in/for the future. I wish to welcome everyone home to this new world by writing WELCOME HOME in my colourful and spirit lifting geometry.

"My inspiration for this work was somewhat based on the wharf hypothesis, which is basically the language you speak dictates how you perceive the world… I wanted to write the word “welcome”… to help human consciousness evolve into the next phase of existence where we understand our interconnection to nature and each other."

  • Trained in both traditional and digital art, and taking from two decades painting graffiti, Peru found his calling as a muralist. While working primarily with aerosol he prefers to distance himself from labels and limitations and continues exploring his imagination through different mediums like digital and installation art. As a proponent of the ‘Graffuturism’ movement, much of Peru’s artistic energy today is dedicated to advancing the traditions of graffiti and mural art into new imaginative territory. The geometric complexity of his text inspired work, done mostly as freehanded freestyles is made more readable by his saturated colour palette, reminiscent of the one we were given as children when we had almost no responsibilities and life was much simpler.
