Meeting #2: Engaging the Community on the Plan
Community Meeting #2
After engaging with community in April, the Lakeview Village team spent the summer preparing a Development Master Plan (DMP) as required by the Official Plan Amendment passed by Council in July (OPA 89). On September 26, 2018, LCPL hosted the second community event at the Oasis Banquet Hall to present the first draft of the DMP and gather feedback in an immersive setting.
This meeting was geared towards providing guests with a “day in the life” experience that allowed them to share ideas and provide feedback on the first draft of the Development Master Plan in a meaningful way. The event was aimed at stepping outside the box with new types of engagement opportunities that inspire. Attendees had the ability to vote, provide written feedback, “favourite” specific design elements from projects across the globe and discuss key topics with members of the Design Team stationed throughout the space.
We listened. We shared. We ideated. And we heard:
- Access to the waterfront is key
- Affordability for all and a range of housing types are important
- Interest in cycling and pedestrian designed spaces especially related to the waterfront
- A range of opinions were on height
- Desire for cafes and restaurants on the water with great views of the lake
- The importance of parking convenient to waterfront activities
- Activities and spaces for the community: sport enthusiasts, seniors, playgrounds for kids, quiet enjoyment
