The Age of Illumination
We are in the middle of a global crisis, COVID-19, racism, systematic oppression and inequality at a global scale. As a black woman, I am in pain. My community has been treated for centuries- as if our bodies were disposable objects. In the age of information, ignorance is a choice and we can no longer allow the ignorance and injustices to continue. Enough is enough. Black and brown bodies matter. Our lives, our minds, our mental health matters. In silent protest, this mural is a plea for equality, justice, to stand against violence and denounce racism, paying homage to those who have lost their lives to racial violence. As with all my work, I aim to create a powerful, hopeful, vibrant work that caters to the mental health of all people, especially people of colour. Here is to celebrating being unapologetically black, to living your truth and loving yourself, and to being our ancestors’ wildest dreams. The work aims to transform this space into a much needed space of mental reset and healing for everyone. Colour is healing… and we need it right now more than ever.
