The mural explored humanity’s connection to large bodies of water and the calming effect they have on us. It symbolized our reconnection to the land and water, with the eagle acting as a messenger soaring across time.

“The Light Within” stood 15 feet tall, twisting toward the sky in a dance of gravity-defying curves, its multicolour light shining and pulsing from within. It was self-powered by an array of solar panels stylized as gigantic wire-frame leaves.

The Sunshine Yard, with the Lakeview Container and outdoor seating, was a place for the community to gather and enjoy. It also supported the growth of local organizations and artists, including hosting the Sunsets and Sounds music series.

The hoarding surrounding the Lakeview Village Discovery Centre, then under construction, was transformed by the artwork of 14 muralists, 2 visual artists, 1 painter, and 1 poet. This initiative provided work for local artists and created a safe outdoor space for the community to experience and engage with art – illuminated so visitors could stroll by starlight.

A poetic narrative described Indigenous life along the waterfront and how the verb-based languages of the various stewards of the treaty area (called “A Dish With One Spoon”) were influenced by Mother Nature and adopted as place names in the GTA.

The fox, a spirit animal, invited us to be guided by our wisdom and intuition and to listen to our hearts. It became the totem for Lakeview Village, celebrating and reconnecting us with nature.
